FSS NEWS:
• New interactive FSS Risk Analysis Tool
• Release of FSS Explanatory Videos
• FSS Conference Review - Rural21

The new year holds 365 new opportunities to learn more about our supply chains and the people involved in them. We at the FSS team look forward to working with committed partners that have set out to address Human Rights and social development in a holistic way and motivate others to do the same by providing practical examples.
In the past year, we have already set the course for this; in order to make the FSS more accessible, we have developed 3 videos that shed light on the FSS from different perspectives.

The National Food Security Assessment (NaFSA) to identify risks at the national level relevant to the food situation is now available as an online tool on our website. It was launched during our conference on Human Rights in Supply Chains last November – an article on the conference is available to read on Rural21.
Looking forward to good cooperation and shared learning in 2022!

To make food security achievable and maneagable, we constantly strive to improve the FSS tools. For that purpose we integrated the National Food Security Assessment (NaFSA) tool into our website and made it interactive.

The NaFSA facilitates a quick and easy, yet comprehensive overview of the national food security situation and framework conditions using publicly available information from websites of UN agencies or other relevant institutions. This tool helps you identify potential critical issues regarding the realization of the Right to Food at national level. For each of the 8 categories there are several indicators that sum up and help you evaluate the situation in each of the categories.

You can access the NaFSA on our Homepage.

Sustainability certification is an important tool to demonstrate commitment to good environmental, social, ethical, and food safety practices. Implementing the FSS means taking care of the fundamental Human Rights of smallholders and workers that are deeply linked with the Human Right to Food.

To break down these issues and show linkages, the FSS team together with Minjung.tv created explanatory videos on

– Understanding the Food Security Standard

– How to get certified?

– The FSS as Due Diligence tool

“Producers have to be center-stage”- Michael von Luerthe, 4C Advisory Board

Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence is on the rise. But what does it mean for global agricultural supply chains and the hunger of smallholders? In November 2021 the FSS Team organized a conference on this very topic with a diverse set of speakers to shed light on it from different angles such as the private sector, sustainability certification schemes or consulting agencies.

The key messages were clear: “We need shared responsibility [and] nothing stops the actors from doing more”.
