The Handbook for Auditors provides background information, describes in detail the FSS scope, how the FSS is implemented within the framework of a sustainability standards systems, the audit procedures and the purpose and structure of the audit tools, on the FSS and its design.
It also explains the pillars and principles on which the FSS criteria and indicators are based.

The Food Security Standard (FSS) takes into account the Right to adequate Food in agricultural production. Applying the FSS in sustainability certification systems ensures that farmers, workers, and neighbouring communities are food secure.
